Pigeon droppings are always a problem in old factory settings. We were approached by a client who needed help cleaning their factory storage area.

They needed the space professionally cleaned to ensure the safety of everyone utilising the site.

The Challenges

Bird and bat droppings can carry some serious and infectious diseases. They can also act as a point of contamination if not properly managed.

We needed to ensure the site was cleaned in a safe and timely manner.

Why are droppings a hazard in a factory setting?

Fresh bird and bat droppings are relatively low risk, however when left to dry and build up over time they can pose a serious risk to your health.

When disturbed, the particles can become airborne and cause irritation to the bronchial passage. In severe cases, this can transmit fungal and infectious diseases.

In a high traffic factory setting that undergoes regular cleaning, occasional droppings are unlikely to be an issue. However, if you have droppings that have built up over months or years, its safest for everyone to have it tackled by a professional.

What is involved in industrial cleaning of potentially hazardous materials?

Our cleaning staff are licensed to safely clean, handle and dispose of potentially hazardous materials.

We perform a full assessment:
Prior to doing any work on site, we assess the location and do a full risk analysis. We then develop an SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) with key stakeholders.

We make the required arrangements:
This job required ticketed forklift operators so we could clean around some old machinery. In the event we required any external contractors, we would then arrange this for the client.

We provide the staff and equipment:
Once we have an agreed upon plan, we send qualified GMA staff to perform the clean. We also ensure they have all the required PPE and equipment to complete the job to the highest standard.

We arrange disposal:
Once the job is complete, we remove the waste from the worksite and dispose of it at approved location. We then thoroughly clean our own equipment and dispose of any single use items prior to starting the next job.

The clean-up went perfectly, resulting in a clean work environment for employees to enter safely.
