Project: Silica Dust Removal
North Fitzroy Primary School identified that dust was migrating from the loft space into the classrooms below.
The dust was tested and identified as Silica with traces of heavy metal. This hazard obviously posed a threat to the occupants of the classrooms and required removal.
The dust was an accumulation of material over many years that had found its way into the loft space through various air inlets and was quite significant in both volume and chemical composition.
GMA used its asbestos removal processes to formulate a safe methodology to remove and dispose of the dust without causing a hazard to the health of the classroom occupants or its own staff.
Air monitoring was undertaken during the removal of dust and a decontamination clean of the classrooms was carried out after removal of the dust using HEPA vacuums and disinfectant wet wipes.
Air monitoring results proved that the classrooms were safe to enter once again following the dust removal process.
