Boiler unit fully clad in Friable Asbestos

When: Sept 2022

Location: Villa Albert Museum, Kew, Victoria

Client: Ersula Chandler – Historical Architect

Job value: $25k

Job and challenges: This boiler unit used to supply hot water to the historically listed Villa Albert Museum.

Unfortunately it was also clad in friable asbestos.

The historical museum had a limited budget so GMA came up with an innovate way, under A Class asbestos conditions, to wrap the boiler… then lift it out as a complete unit.

Made possible with a mini track mounted crane and trained personnel.

It was a huge success. All air monitoring results were clean… with no airborn asbestos fibres detected!
