Scope of works
The demolition of the existing park, playground, toilet block and site features.
A new toilet block was constructed along with a carpark, playground with equipment, a shelter and BBQ area. Concrete footpaths are surrounded by native garden beds with convenient furniture next to walking paths.
Keeping the project local to the Moorabool Shire meant the works by GMA included carefully choosing contractors based in the Bacchus Marsh area.
Materials utilised
Our commitment to keeping the project local to the Moorabool Shire meant we also sourced as much as we could locally:
- Materials were locally sourced as much as possible from Moorabool Shire
- Concrete, asphalt, steel, rock, sand, mulch, soil and timber
Challenges
GMA has extensive experience when it comes to soil remediation and asbestos removal. This knowledge was integral to the demolition process of the Federation Park Project.
Appropriate accreditation and the safety of our staff and the neighbouring community all play a part during the asbestos cleanup operation and in particular the removal of asbestos contaminated soil from underneath the existing playground area.
Removal process
- Works completed by GMA who are a Victorian WorkSafe licenced asbestos removalist
- Disposal of material at a licenced landfill facility complete by EPA registered vehicles and drivers
Traffic management
- Managed successfully in conjunction with GMA’s traffic management contractor with VicRoads approved traffic management plans
- Temporary fencing installed to protect workers
- Appropriate signage placed to reduce speed in the working areas and live traffic management was implemented where required whilst working against the roadside
