When: March 2021 | Location: Peelmans Lane , Bacchus Marsh | Client: Jaydo | Job value: $50k

The Brief:

GMA were engaged by Jaydo to install chainmesh fencing, barriers, Tuscan topping walkways, and a commercial irrigation system at a pumping station in Werribee.
We were also asked to plant indigenous shrubs to screen off the new pumping station and improve the aesthetic of the walkway.

The Challenges:

A sensitive area on a one-way road right next to the Werribee River; GMA liaised with stakeholders, the landscape architect and client to ensure a productive outcome both during construction and post construction.

But how did we ensure the surrounding garden would stand the test of time?

Indigenous Shrubs

We chose to use Australian indigenous shrubs, which offer a number of benefits:

Better climate adaptation:
Indigenous shrubs are well-adapted to the local climate, which means they are more likely to thrive and require less maintenance than non-indigenous plants.

Promote biodiversity:
Indigenous shrubs can provide habitat and food for a range of native wildlife, promoting biodiversity in the area.

Low maintenance:
Indigenous shrubs require less water, fertiliser, and pesticides compared to non-native species, which means they are more cost-effective and sustainable in the long term.

Aesthetics:
Indigenous shrubs can provide an attractive and natural appearance to the landscape, which would better suit the look and feel of the surrounding vegetation.

Commercial Irrigation System

We also installed a commercial irrigation system, to ensure the best results over time:

Water conservation:
Irrigation systems can help to conserve water by delivering the exact amount of water needed to plants and lawns, reducing the risk of over-watering and runoff.

Improved plant health:
Consistent and precise watering can help to ensure that plants receive the optimal amount of water for healthy growth and development.

Increased efficiency:
Automated irrigation systems can be scheduled to water at the best time for the plants and can be programmed to only water certain areas, reducing water waste.

The end result was a beautiful and low maintenance outdoor area, that provided ample protection for the pumping station whilst improving the long term aesthetic of the area.
